On 27 November 2015, invited by Research Center on Pollution Ecology and Environmental Engineering, IAE, Key Lab of Pollution Ecology and Environmental Engineering CAS and Youth Innovation Promoting Association IAE, Dr Dennis Cardiff Gave seminar entitled as Plant Cell Cycle: Checkpoints and Control. He concentrated on the subject of cell cycle regulation, introduced his work on functions of ATM and ATR, functions of G2/M transition、DNA-replication checkpoint、 DNA-damage checkpoihttp://www.iae.cas.cn/xwzx/xshd/201512/W020151201611336283792.gifnt, DNA repair checkpoint、interactions between WEE1 and 14-3-3 proteins both in vitro and in vivo in plants;WEE1 kinase and CDC25 phosphatase in the process of cell mitosis and in the stability of genome. Prof Dennis Francis did a lot innovative work in the field of construction of T-DNA insertional lines for WEE1 and CDC25.

Dr Dennis Francis got his bachelor degree of Botany in 1973, got doctor degree from University of New Castle in 1977. He was a Professor in Botany Department, Cardiff University in 1995-2012. He is a specially appointed professor of Liaoniong University in 2015.

After the seminar, Prof D Francis discussed for a long time with Young scientists in related subjects such as synchronization of cell division of suspended cells of Arabidopsis under Cadmium and Copper stress, the relations between Single interference (Si) RNA-MLH1/ Si RNA-MSH2/ Si RNA-MSH6 and G2 phase stopping in cell mitosis, application of WEE1 gene expression and gene knockout mutant in cell cycle regulation; the toxic effect of lanthanide to model plant chlorella and model animal zebrafish, the importance of tobacco TBY-2 cell line, development of research on callus and cell suspension culture.
