Release Time:2016-04-15 Big Small

On 1 April 2016, the meeting was held in IAE. Prof ZHU Jiaojun, the chief scientist of the project, ZHUO Junchen, the head of IAE Science and Technology Department and workers in the projectteam , about 20 persons presented. The meeting was conducted by Prof ZHU.

Prof ZHU introduced the essential ideas for the project design, the general aim and indices for the assessment of the results. ZHUO junchen detailed the significance and management way of the project and expressed hope that the young workers have the courage to take on tasks and wished that through the execution of the project and realization of the target, a young backbone team in the research of forest science will be trained.

Then, the deputy chief scientist, Prof YAN Qiaoling reported the object, key problems, contents, predicted outcomes and task divisions of the project. Some revisions had done according to the suggestions provided by specialistsin the field. Then the team members Dr HAO Guangyou, Dr ZHU Feifei, YANG Kai, Dr WANG Qingkui, Dr ZHANG Weidong, Dr FANG Lei reported the contents, goals and implementation plans for their tasks, respectively. Though the meeting, the members in the research team combed the research thoughts, detailed task division and indexes for the result assessment.

The background of the project: According to 8th National forest inventory, man-made forest plantations composed 1/3 of China’s forest coverage and 1/4 area of global forest plantations. The major part of the plantations is plantations for timber and for environment protection. However, there are contradictions between the multi-management aims of the plantations and existing circumstances. The goal of timer forest construction is high productivity, sustainability and taking the ecological functions as well. However, the current situation is many plantations show low productivity, in-sustainability and the ecological functions have been ignored. For environment-protective forest, the goal is realization of the stable and highly-efficient protective functions and sustainability of the forest. However, the functions of existing protective plantations are being decreased for the single structure and serious degradation of the plantations.  So, it is urgent to look for new theory and technologies for the management of multi-goal-plantations. The project is one of five similar featured service projects in IAE. The project is important to promote high productivity, highly protective functions and sustainability of China’s forest plantations. Young talent scientists will be trained and tempered in the implementation of the project.
