Inception Conference for The Project Ca/N Coupled Cycling and Carbon Source/Sink Effect of North China Forest and Grassland Ecosystem listed in Thirteenth Five Year Plan Held on Changbai Mountain

Release Time:2016-09-21 Big Small

The Conference was held on 14 August 2016, hosted by IAE, undertaken by Changbai Mountain Academy. The meeting was conducted by the chief Scientist of the project, Prof HAN Shijie.

Members of specialist group academician from Institute of Geography and Natural Resources Research CAS, Prof SUN Honhlie, academician from Northeast Institute of Geography and Agro-ecology CAS, Prof LIU Xingtu, Prof HUANG Yao from Institute of Botany CAS, Prof DONG Wenjie from Beijing Normal University, Prof LI Jun from Computer Network Information Center CAS, the director of IAE, Prof JI Lanzhu and Prof CHEN Zhaoshuang from Changbai Mountain Academy and other research workers or administrators from Institute of Applied Ecology, Institute of Botany, Institute of Atmospheric Physics IAE, Northeast Forestry University, Northwest A&F University, Tianjin University and Changbai Mountain Academy presented. Party secretary and director XIE Zhongyan and secretary general YAN Yibing from Changbai Mountain Natural Reserve and section chief from Bureau of Frontier Science & Education CAS were in attendance.

Director JI Lanzhu and Section Chief DUAN Xiaonan expressed congratulations and gave suggestions to the execution of the project in their speech. Party secretary XIE Zhongyan from the natural reserve pointed out that the development of the reserve need scientific research and ecological preservation. The Reserve will bring the advantage in resources and geography into full play, offer more support to the research work.

Prof HAN Shijie illustrated the implementation plan for the whole project. The 4 subject heads detailed the implementation plan, entitled respectively as Research on Dynamics of Plant- Soil-Atmosphere C/N coupled cycling, Biological Mechanism of Ecosystem C/N coupled cycling, Formation Mechanism and Effects of Ecosystem Carbon Source/Sink and Means of Elevation of Forest and Grassland Carbon Source. Then the project backbone members had discussions on the subjects. The Specialists seriously listened the reports, highly evaluated the scientific significance of the project and gave valuable suggestions for the implementation.

The project was one of the national key projects in IAE that approved in 2016. It point out to the weakness in the research on the responses of Carbon source/sink effects and soil micro-organism Carbon/Nitrogen availability of degraded frozen ground ecosystem to the global climatic change, considering the transition of research from single geo-biochemical elements to multiple element synthetic research. The work in this project may highlight the important contribution of fast vegetation recovery in China to the reduction of uncertainty in the assessment of Carbon source/sink relations.

The project will construct methods to evaluate the effect of plant community development in reduction of green-house-gas release, use multiple time series isotope technique to show nitrogen availability of forest and grassland, construct dynamic vegetation model which adaptive to C/N coupling research for forest and grassland in North China Frozen ground region, increase in national database for global change, make scientific manage suggestions for Nitrogen deposition, climate change, fire interference and vegetation successions of North China forest and grassland.
