Huitong Experimental Station of Forest Ecology

This Station (26¡ã48¡äN, 109¡ã30¡äE ) locates in the Huitong County of Hunan Province, and was founded in 1960. It is one of the key stations in the Chinese Ecosystem Research Network (CERN) and joined the MAB program in 1988. Focusing on the major ecological issues in the management of plantation forest, the Station has been oriented to the study of ecological processes and sustainable management of plantation forest to enrich the forest ecology and provide scientific basis and key technologies for ecological restoration of major types of forest and environmental improvement in subtropical China. The objective in the near future is to elucidate the effect of management practices and single tree species on key ecological processes in soil, especially on the characteristics and processes of soil organic matter, and to provide theoretic basis for sustainable management of soil in plantation forest.
