On June 10, 2021, the Matchmaking Event for promoting local transformation of scientific and technological achievements of the Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), was held in the Northeast China Science and Technology Grand Market.

On May 25, 2021, the Shenyang Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) organised a Project Check Meeting for the key regional project of Science and Technology Service Network Initiative (STS) of CAS titled "Corn Straw Mulching and No-tillage Paradigm Establishment and Demonstration in Liaoning Province", aiming at assessing the fulfilment of the project's goals and tasks. The project was led by a group of scientists from the Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE), CAS.

From May 10 to 18, 2021, the on-site inspection and pre-acceptance meeting was organised to advance the progress of the program Ecological Protection and Biological Resources Development and Utilization Technology and Demonstration Research in Forest Areas in Northeast China, a key program of the "13th Five-Year" National Key Research and Development Program on Ecological Restoration and Protection in Typical Fragile Areas.

From June 20 to 21st, 2021, at the invitation of Erguna Forest-Steppe Ecotone Research Station, Prof. Liu Zhengan, Deputy Secretary-General of Peony and Paeonia Branch of China Flower Association, head of Peony Cultivation and Breeding Research Group of the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, visited Erguna and gave guidance on local peony planting.

According to the Liaoning Provincial Government, the Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE), Chinese Academy of Sciences, wins 3 Provincial Science and Technology Awards of the year 2020. Among them, Prof. Cao Wei, researcher from the Biodiversity Group of IAE, won the second prize of the Natural Science Award of Liaoning Province for his study on plants in Northeast China. Gu Jian, associate researcher from the Agricultural Water and Soil Engineering Group of IAE, won the third prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award because of his research project "Integrated Application of the Green and Efficient Drip Irrigation and Water-saving Technology in Semi-arid Corn Growing Areas in Western Liaoning." Prof. Ewald Schnug, nominated by IAE, won the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of Liaoning Province.

On May 7, 2021, the mid-term meeting of the National Key R&D Project "Site Soil Environmental Damage Assessment Methods and Standards" was held offline at the Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and in the form of web conferencing.

On the afternoon of May 18, Li Chunqiu, deputy secretary of the Huaihua Municipal Party Committee and Acting Mayor, and Yang Honggao, secretary-general of the Municipal Government, accompanied by Zhou Lizhi, secretary of the Huitong County Party Committee, visited the Huitong Forest Ecosystem Observation and Research Station, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The "Black Soil and Granary" Initiative of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is promoting the construction of the Liaoning Demonstration Area in an orderly manner. This year's demonstrative experiments and the seeding work have started.

To peak carbon dioxide emissions and achieve carbon neutrality is one of the key tasks of China during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, and even before 2060. To accomplish this goal, it is necessary to explore effective ways to reduce carbon emission and increase carbon sink.

On April 22, 2021, the National Key Research and Development Program "Key Technologies and Small Equipment Research and Development for Freezing and Thawing Soil Remediation in Villages and Towns and Communities" held the annual work promotion meeting. The meeting was held offline at the Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and in the form of online video meeting. Gao Junmin from Chongqing University, Hong Jiangtao from Chengdu Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment of the CAS and the Ministry of Water Resources, Gong Zongqiang, Li Xiaojun, Shi Rongjiu, Jia Chunyun, Jiang Zhiyang and other core members of the project attended the meeting.
