In Chifeng city, Inner Mongolia, a significant academic summit and the inauguration of a dedicated research centre were held on 6 June 2025. The event, focused on combating desertification and conserving shelter forests, brought together dozens of prominent scientists, government officials, and policymakers to chart next‑generation strategies in ecological restoration.

Charles T. Driscoll, a distinguished professor from Syracuse University and a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, visited the Institute of Applied Ecology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Shenyang from June 8 to 12, 2025, for a week-long academic exchange focused on ecosystem processes under climate change and pollution stressors.

Associate Professor Birhanu Kebede Kuris of Ambo University, Ethiopia, delivered a seminar on May 9, 2025, at the Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, spotlighting the vital role of tropical forests in the global carbon cycle. His presentation, attended by over 20 researchers, including Professors Achalu Chimdi and Alemayehu Adugna of Ambo University and senior researchers from IAE, highlighted the urgent need for more precise methodologies to quantify forest carbon stocks and biodiversity.

With the current phaseunderway, the study provides critical scientific insights to guide the program’s continued success and adaptation to environmental constraints.

The IAE’s 70th anniversary not only honored its past achievements but also laid a foundation for future advancements in ecological research, reinforcing its role in sustainable development.

The 4th International Conference on Anaerobic Biological Dehalogenation (DehaloCon IV) and the Halogenated Organic Compound Pollution Remediation Symposium were held from September 26-28, 2024. Jointly organized by the Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE), Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Sun Yat-sen University, the conference was chaired by Researcher YAN Jun and Professor WANG Shanquan.
