Researchers Reveal Ecological Mechanisms Influencing Local-scale Patterns of Spatial Community Dissimilarity in Temperate ForestsIn a new study published in Global Ecology and Biogeography, an international research group led by Dr. WANG Xugao of the Institute of Applied Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has made progress in understanding the ecological processes that determine local-scale patterns of spatial community dissimilarity in temperate forests.May 03, 2018 -
Scientists Reveal the Influence of Forest Conversion on the Temporal Patterns of Microbial Beta-diversity in Subtropical ChinaNatural forests have been widely converted to meet other land needs such as plantation, agriculture and pasture, and the loss of natural forest is estimated to be 130 million hectares between 2000 and 2010. This land-use change caused the loss of microbial β-diversity, which would lead to biotic homogenization of microbial communities, altered ecosystem functions and reduced ecosystem resilience to global change. Thus, evaluating the effects of land-use change on microbial diversity need to be urgently resolved.May 03, 2018 -
Scientists Find C Quality and Microbial Property Controlling the Non-linear Latitudinal Patterns of Q10 of Soil Microbial Respiration across Chinese ForestsThe amount of CO2 released to the atmosphere through soil microbial respiration (Rs) is estimated to be 60 Pg C.May 03, 2018 -
The Differences of Nutrient Resorption between Trees with Different Mycorrhizal FungiTrees usually associate with different mycorrhizal fungi, which help them take up nutrient from soil.Apr 28, 2018 -
Researchers Develop High-throughput Method for Rapid Detection of Pesticide ResiduesResearchers from the Institute of Applied Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences established a high-throughput method for the rapid detection of pesticide residues (i.e. Chlorpyrifos and Carbofuran) in water. This method combined Quantum Dot labeled Molecularly Imprinted Polymer (QD-MIP) with Flow Cytometry (FC) technology.Apr 20, 2018 -
Researchers Isolate Biosurfactant-producing Bacterial Strains Showing Potential for Microbial Enhanced Oil RecoveryA new study led by researchers from the Institute of Applied Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences indicates that a bacterial strain isolated from Xinjiang oil reservoir can efficiently produce biosurfactant under anaerobic (oxygen-free) or high pressure conditions and thus is promising for applications in microbial enhanced oil recovery (MEOR).Apr 18, 2018 -
Researchers Isolate a new Pseudomonas Strain that Can Produce Biosurfactants without Air InjectionResearchers from the Institute of Applied Ecology of CAS isolated an indigenous strain, Pseudomonas aeruginosa DQ3 from Daqing oil reservoir production water. They found that the strain could anaerobically (non-oxygen needing) produce biosurfactant through bioaugmentation.Apr 16, 2018 -
Scientists Find Unexpectedly High N Isotope Fractionation during Denitrification in Forest SoilsDenitrification has been considered a major process removing available N from ecosystems and also a major mechanism leading N limitation of ecosystems. However, the denitrification rates are difficult to quantify due to the lack of direct determination method of denitrification rate from the ecosystem scale.Apr 08, 2018 -
Researchers Find Rhizosphere Priming Effects of Trees with and without Intraspecific Competition on Soil Carbon and Nitrogen DynamicsResearch have shown that the rhizosphere priming effects (RPEs) apparently affect the organic matter decomposition and nutrient (especially Nitrogen) cycling.Apr 02, 2018 -
Scientists Find Effect of Nitrogen deposition on Soil Microbial DiversityN deposition is one of the important factors affecting the global change. Research shows that the N deposition will increase continually in the coming decades. By simulation of N deposition experiment, in lab or field, Scientists have got some knowledge on changes in nutrient cycling of terrestrial ecosystem, plant productivity, plant diversity and soil microbe biomass under increased N deposition.Mar 22, 2018
