On December 29, 2017, the National Standard for Stabilized Fertilizer was approved by General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and National Standardization Management Committee and issued in National Standard Announcement 2017-32. The standard will be put in official implementation on July 1,2018.

The standard stipulates that the difference rate of urease residue and nitrification inhibition rate are the main indicators for evaluating stabilized fertilizers, and the specific detection methods of two indicators are identified. Urease was added to the test method of urea residue difference rate to increase the detection speed. Soil incubation method was used to increase the detection accuracy in the determination of nitrification inhibition rate.

The development of various new fertilizers is very fast. The stabilized fertilizer has been more and more welcomed by the market and recognized by farmers since its advantages in high efficiency and low cost.

In international market, stabilized fertilizer enterprises, represented by COMPO and BASF, Germany, Solvay, Belgium, DOW and KOCH in North America, annually sell fertilizer 800 kilo-tons in Europe, 120 kilotons in North America and 80 kilo tons in Middle-East and Africa. The enterprises, cooperated with IAE to produce stabilized fertilizer, produce 1500 kilo tons, more than 1/3 of the world. Stabilized fertilizer has become the dominant species of new fertilizers in China. To further specify the stabilized fertilizer market, a national standard is imperatively needed to lead the fast development of stabilized fertilizer.

The standard has an important significance in the innovative development of new fertilizer, accelerate the supply side structure reformation of fertilizer industry, guarantee the product quality, promote the action in zero growth of fertilization, agricultural higher quality and benefit and increase in farmer's income.
