As a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent, triclosan has been used in daily life articles, drugs, clean skin care products, toys and medical utilities. It is a new pollutant, can be detected from all the media from aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems and may seriously harm human’s health. The group investigated the existence and potential danger for organisms to expose to it. The migration, degradation and transformation of triclosan were followed in anaerobic environment, in aquatic environment, in intestinal tract and in soils and systematically uncovered the ways of degradation and transformation and related microbiological mechanism. The results show that in anaerobic environment, triclosan was reductively de-chlorinated. This may be a new way of triclosan degradation in anaerobic environment. The product of dechlorination was under the process of identification. In aquatic environment, trichlosan showed some toxicity to lotus, hyacinth and zebra fish. In soil environment, the organic matter increased the catchment of triclosan and the catchment increased with the increase in organic matter content. Related mechanism was under investigation.
