On May 16, thirty-one students and teachers of Wenhua Road Primary School of Shenyang visited Qingyuan Forest Ecosystem Research Station of the Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE, CAS) and started their two-day camping trip there.

On the afternoon of May 16, under the instruction and guidance of the staff members (hereinafter referred to as instructors) of Qingyuan station, the students collected insects and plants and visited the facilities and experimental plots of the station. The instructors introduced the current studies of the station to the students. Beautiful forest, diverse organisms and amazing scientific knowledge deeply attracted the students. They asked questions about the interesting things they saw and the instructors answered patiently. In the evening, the students made specimens of insects and plants into beautiful artworks.

On the morning of May 17, Dr. ZHANG Jinxin of Qingyuan Station gave a talk on the roles of forests, the overview of forest resources in China and the significance of conducting forest-related studies to the students.

The science camp was co-organized by Wenhua Road Primary School, the Institute of Applied Ecology and Qingyuan Station. “Getting close to the forest, experiencing the mystery of life and widening scientific vision” — this is the theme of the science camp. Through the two-day science camp activities, all students experienced the fun of science while also learned a lot from the instructors.

Qingyuan Research Station has long been committed to providing science education and outreach to students of colleges, middle schools and primary schools, and to becoming an important science popularization base of CAS and Liaoning province.
