On the morning of March 8, 2019, the Institute of Applied Ecology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IAE, CAS) signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement with the Liaoning Academy of Agricultural Sciences (LAAS). ZHU Jiaojun, director of IAE, JIN Changjie, deputy director and Party Committee secretary of IAE, FANG Yunting, deputy director of IAE, HAO Xin, deputy secretary of IAE Party Committee, SUI Guomin, president and Party Committee secretary of LAAS, as well as YUAN Xingfu, Sun Zhanxiang and WU Lanyi, the vice presidents and members of the Party Group of LAAS, attended the signing ceremony.
The ceremony was presided over by SUN Zhanxiang. SUI and ZHU delivered speeches on behalf of the two sides and signed the cooperation agreement. SUI said: “LAAS and IAE have had a good foundation for cooperation. The two sides have common and complementary aspects in many fields of agricultural research. In the past few years LAAS has achieved remarkable achievements, especially in the development and transformation of scientific and technological (S&T) achievements in crop cultivation, variety selection and deep processing of agricultural products. But there is still room for further improvement in basic research. Therefore, it is highly expected to complement the shortcomings of LAAS with the advantages of IAE, to collaborate with IAE in cross-disciplinary research, project application and talent exchange, and finally to achieve a win-win development.”
ZHU Jiaojun said: “IAE and LAAS have common innovation goals in serving the main battlefield of national economy such as the development of agriculture and forestry in Northeast China. In the process of deepening institutional reform in the country, the discipline areas of LAAS have been further expanded, and the scientific research strength of LAAS has been further enhanced. In the meanwhile, IAE has successfully passed the evaluation in the institutional reform of the CAS. The two sides have launched the strategic cooperation in this historical encounter, which will help the two sides work together and make greater contributions to the national ecological civilization construction and agricultural science and technology innovation.”
According to the agreement, the two sides will aim to enhance Liaoning's agricultural S&T innovation capability, accelerate the transformation of agricultural S&T innovation and achievements, and achieve sound and rapid sustainable development of agriculture by carrying out all-round and multi-field cooperation such as in the construction of platforms for S&T innovation and outcome transformation, joint research and innovation, talents training, discipline construction, and academic exchange.
Participants held discussions concerning the cooperation agenda. WU Zhijie, director of the National Laboratory of Fertilizer Engineering, FAN Jungang, president of the Liaoning Academy of Forestry (which is now affiliated to LAAS), FENG Liangshan, director of the Institute of Tillage and Cultivation of LAAS, as well as the middle-level cadres of IAE and LAAS attended the signing ceremony.
