The National Key Research and Development Program Project "Key Technologies and Products R&D for Biodegradation of Toxic and Hazardous Chemicals" Holds On-site Acceptance Meeting

On September 29, 2020, "Key Technologies and Products R&D for Biodegradation of Toxic and Hazardous Chemicals (no. 2017YFD0800702)," the 2nd project of the National Key Research and Development Program "Farmland Toxic and Hazardous Chemical/Biological Pollution Prevention and Control Technology and Product R&D" Held an on-site acceptance meeting at a demonstration field designed to study the microbial degradation of typical pesticides (Atrazine, metsulfuron-methyl and tribenuron-methyl) in Xingshan Village, Zhangwu County, Fuxin City, Liaoning Province.

The project-acceptance expert panel was composed of Prof. Feng Liangshan from the Institute of Tillage and Cultivation of the Liaoning Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Sun Junde from the School of Land and Environment, Shenyang Agricultural University, and Professor Liang Jiyan from the School of Environment and Chemical Engineering, Shenyang University of Technology. A total of more than 30 people including Prof. Zhang Huiwen and Xu Mingkai from the Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE), Chinese Academy of Sciences, and others from Nanjing Agricultural University, the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Agricultural Regional Planning of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Hunan Provincial Institute of Plant Protection, Shenyang Institute of Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., and the Environmental Protection Research and Monitoring Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture attended the acceptance meeting.

First of all, the members of the project-acceptance expert panel, the program chief scientist Prof. Liu Xingang, and research backbones of the project inspected the demonstration field designed for testing the effects of microbial degradation of pesticides. After witnessing the on-site measurement of corn yield in the demonstration field, the project-acceptance experts gave full recognition and high evaluation to the effect of the application of pesticide degrading agents.

Subsequently, the Project Acceptance Review meeting was held, chaired by the project chief, Prof. Zhang Huiwen. Yu Shouzhi, manager of the Science and Technology Innovation Department of the Shenyang Institute of Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., delivered a welcome speech on behalf of researchers in charge of sub-projects. After that, Dr. Li Tingting of the Shenyang Institute of Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. gave a report on the results of the field experiment.

The expert panel fully affirmed the results of the field experiment and the application prospects of the pesticide degrading agents. They concluded that the field experiment was implemented as planned, the effect of the application of pesticide degrading agents was significant, which could educe pesticide residues by more than 30%, significantly increase corn yield, and that the quality of agricultural products conformed to the national standards for food safety. The expert panel also made constructive comments and suggestions on marketing and promotion of these pesticide biodegradation agents.

Finally, Liu Xingang summarised the acceptance meeting, and put forward requirements for the next step work. He suggested to speed up the commercialization of research results, and formulate technical specifications to guide the application of pesticide biodegradation agents, and ensure the smooth completion of project tasks.
