Erguna Station Becomes One of the First EcoScience Education Bases of the Chinese Ecological Society

On the morning of November 27th, the awarding ceremony of the first batch of Ecological Science Popularization Education Bases of the Chinese Ecological Society was held at Hainan University. A total of nine ecological research bases, including Erguna Station (i.e., Erguna Forest-Steppe Ecotone Research Station) of the Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), South China Botanical Garden of CAS, Xishuangbanna Botanical Garden of CAS and Beijing Experimental Center for Elk Ecology Research, won this honor. Professor Luo Qingming, academician of CAS and president of Hainan University, Prof. Liu Shirong, president of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, Zhong Linsheng, secretary-general of the Chinese Ecological Society and professor of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the ceremony. 

Prof. Wang Zhengwen, head of the Erguna Station, attended the ceremony and was awarded the plaque of "Ecoscience Education Base." At the exchange meeting held later, Wang Zhengwen informed the participants of the meeting about the science popularization activities carried out at Erguna Station and his ideas to popularize ecological science in the future. 

Since its establishment, Erguna Station has been attaching great importance to popularize ecological science. Relying on the unique geographic location, diverse research facilities and platforms, and the support from CAS and the Chinese Ecological Society, Erguna Station has developed a featured Ecoscience popularization curriculum and activity system. By carrying out science popularization work continuously, Erguna Station has won universal praise from students, parents and the local society. In 2018, the local TV station reported the science popularization activities of the station. This year, the station received the visitors from the on-site meeting of the 2020 Hulunbeier Social Practice Education for Primary and Secondary School Students.
