On October 12-13, 2021, Prof. Chen Lijun, Associate Prof. Jiang Nan (deputy head of the Shenyang Farmland Ecosystem National Field Observation and Research Station), and Associate Prof. Chen Zhenhua of the Institute of Applied Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), came to the agricultural science and technology demonstration zone of the Black Soil & Granary Initiative of CAS in Chaoyang City to conduct on-site crop yield measurement and to track the progress of the project titled "the Integrated Technology for Efficient Use of Soil Nutrients and Soil Fertility Enhancement."

Prof. Xiao Shisheng, deputy head of the Chaoyang Soil and Fertiliser Workstation, Liu Dezhi, head of the Agricultural Service Station of Taohuatu Town, Shuangta District, Chaoyang City, director Deng Chunhui and Shao Chen of the Enterprise Service Center of Chaoyang University accompanied the visit to the demonstration zone and gave feedback on optimisation and promotion of relevant agricultural technologies.

In the core demonstration area and the experimental fields, the researchers measured crop yields, strictly following the standard procedures. After performing chemical analyses on soil and plant samples, the researchers determined crop nutrient absorption, fertiliser utilisation, soil bio-chemical characteristics, and the mechanisms underlying nutrient conversion and utilisation, and then they optimised nitrogen-phosphorus synergy and soil fertility enhancement technologies.

These accurate and detailed data have laid a foundation for the efficient use of soil nutrients and the improvement of soil fertility in the semi-arid area in western Liaoning, have provided a theoretical basis for the application and promotion of the relevant technologies, and will ensure the smooth progress of the black soil conservation and utilisation project.
