On October 11, 2021, an expert group composed of Agronomy experts from Shenyang Agricultural University, Liaoning Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and the Institute of Applied Ecology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), came to the Shenyang Demonstration Zone of the "Black Soil & Granary" Initiative of CAS, and evaluated the implementation effects of the "Anti-wind Erosion, Water-saving, High-Efficiency Agriculture Model" project. On October 12, an on-site meeting on Conservation Tillage Techniques and Equipment was held in Fumeng County, Fuxin City.

The core demonstration fields of the "Anti-wind Erosion, Water-saving, High-Efficiency Agriculture Model" project were located in several villages in Fumeng County, Fuxin City, including Daguben Village, Daguben Town, Shuiquan Village, Bajiazi Town, Nuhetu Village, Paozi Town, and Tabenshazhalan Village, Fuxin Town. On October 11, the experts measured corn yields in each demonstration field. The results showed that the yield per mu of corn was 802.46-881.47 kg/mu in the demonstration fields, an increase of 6.46-11.87% compared to the control. The expert group concluded that the black soil conservation and utilization models (e.g., corn stalk mulching, no-tillage and row spacing schemes) can enhance the growth of crop root systems, increase corn planting density and yields, and show good effects in soil erosion control, water conservation, cost-saving and efficiency-improving.

In order to popularize and promote the conservation tillage models and related agricultural mechanization equipment, the project team held an on-site meeting in Daguben Town, Fumeng County on October 12. More than 150 people attended the on-site meeting, including local town mayors who are in charge of town agriculture, the leaders from Liaoning Academy of Agricultural Sciences, IAE, Fuxin Municipal Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, and Fumeng County Government, the heads of agricultural machinery cooperatives and agricultural science stations, representatives of large grain growers, and journalists and media reporters.

Local farmers and agricultural technicians at village- and town-level had a deep understanding of conservation tillage after seeing the demonstration fields, the performance of conservation tillage equipment, and taking part in the on-site training. This will play a proactive demonstration role in leading the change of traditional tillage practices, in protecting black soil resource, and in promoting the implementation of the national strategy of "storing grains with high-techs and sufficient fields."
