On the morning of December 2, 2021, Zhang Hongxiang, deputy director of the Science and Technology Promotion and Development Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), along with the department heads of the bureau, held a video meeting with administrative and research representatives of the Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE), CAS. 

More than 20 people of IAE attended the meeting, including director Zhu Jiaojun, deputy director Fang Yunting, deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Hao Xin, deputy director Zhuo Junchen, heads of research centers and field stations, representatives of young scientists, and heads of administrative divisions. The meeting was presided over by Zhuo Junchen. 

Ren Xiaobo, head of the Atmospheric, Oceanic and Ecological Environment Department of the Science and Technology Promotion and Development Bureau, introduced the current responsibilities of the bureau and the purpose of holding the meeting. He said that the most important task of this meeting was to urge the reorganization of the State Key Laboratory of the Institute. 

Afterwards, Zhu Jiaojun gave a report, introducing the basic information of the institute, IAE's achievements during the 13th Five-Year period, and work planning of the institute during the 14th Five-Year period. He emphasized the significance to reorganize the State Key Laboratory, hoping to receive priority support from the bureau of CAS. He also put forward some suggestions, for example, on making the most of the institute's strength in resources and environment research, and coordinating the layout of major research tasks. 

Some meeting participants of IAE then gave speeches on the reorganization of the State Key Laboratory, on the application for Black Soil Conservation projects, and on the construction of field stations. 

The leaders from the Science and Technology Promotion and Development Bureau fully affirmed the achievements of IAE, and responded positively to the institute's suggestions and demands. And they gave some constructive opinions on the institute's development. 

At the end of the meeting, Zhang Hongxiang said that as the State Key Laboratory is of great importance to IAE, the institute must do careful preparation, make full use of its own advantages, improved its own ability to meet the country's major strategic needs and to solve key scientific and technological problems. He hoped that the Institute will strive for more major national scientific and technological tasks in the 14th Five-Year period, while the Science and Technology Promotion and Development Bureau will vigorously support the institute in its development process.
