Environmental Research Center of IAE Holds Strategic Planning Symposium

On December 23, 2021, the Pollution Ecology and Environmental Engineering Research Center of the Institute of Applied Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences held a symposium to discuss the center's strategic development in the 14th Five-Year period. More than 30 people including director Zhu Jiaojun, deputy director Zhuo Junchen, heads of administrative divisions of the institute and researchers from different research groups of the center attended the symposium which was presided over by researcher Gong Zongqiang, deputy head of the environmental research center. 

Director Zhu Jiaojun pointed out that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, our researchers of the center must face up to the policy of ecological civilization construction, focus on areas of pollution control and prevention, and meet the national needs for green and low-carbon development.  

Researcher Guo Shuhai gave a talk concerning the development of soil, water and air pollution science as well as the frontiers in environmental science and environmental engineering. He proposed a regional pollution remediation technology system which might be the priority of his research group. 

Researcher Jia Yongfeng suggested that the research groups of the center refine scientific questions, create breakthroughs to solve problems in scientific layouts, and give full play to the advantages formed by long-term research. He also suggested that young scientists should think forward and be more active to explore new study areas. 

Deputy director Zhuo Junchen suggested that major research of the center should target at solving environmental issues in Northeast China, and should give a boost to the training and recruitment of young talents so as to produce more scientific outputs. 

Researcher Zhang Huiwen proposed to keep long-term cooperation and exchanges in order to realize resources sharing and efficiency maximization. 

All research groups presented strategic development reports at the meeting by detailing summaries and plans about their research projects, team management, and so on. These discussions provided valuable insights for the center's development in the next five years.
