On January 11, 2022, Liaoning Ecological Society (LES) organized its 2021 Annual Conference and a Symposium on the Role of Ecology in Achieving Carbon Emission Peaking and Carbon Neutrality. The conference was held at the Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Shenyang in Offline and Live Streaming mode. Pan Jin, Head of the Society Division at LES, attended the meeting. 

The conference organizers specially invited a number of experts to attend the conference, including Sun Zhanxiang and Zheng Wenjing, researchers of Liaoning Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Wu Zhijie, researcher of IAE, Cao Dong, researcher of Liaoning Agricultural Development Service Center, Zhu Yanxu, researcher of Liaoning Academy of Animal Sciences, Xing Yan, Senior Engineer of Liaoning Agricultural Technology Extension Station, Fan Jungang of Liaoning Academy of Forestry Sciences, Liang Fengguo, Senior Engineer of Liaoning River & Reservoir Management Service Center (Liaoning Hydrology Bureau), and Ge Yan, senior engineer of Liaoning Academy of Water Conservancy and Hydropower. 

More than 100 people including LES chairman, vice-chairman, secretary-general and other members attended the conference. 

Wang Xugao, Head of the Science and Technology Division of IAE and member of LES, and Yan Qiaoling, Secretary-general of LES, presided at the conference.  

Pan Jin delivered an opening speech. He hoped that LES would give full play to its functions and serve the ecological civilization construction in Liaoning Province. Afterward Yan Qiaoling delivered a report about the Society's 2021 work summary and 2022 work priorities. 

Zhu Jiaojun made a plenary report, detailing the role of Ecology in achieving carbon emission peaking and carbon neutrality. He highlighted the urgent research and actions to achieve the "carbon goals" in Liaoning Province. 

Sun Tao, who won the title of the 13th Liaoning Province Outstanding Scientific and Technological Worker, gave a talk titled "Root input is the main source of soil carbon pool in temperate forests". Dong Zhi, associate researcher from Liaoning Academy of Agricultural Sciences, gave a talk titled "Opportunities and challenges for carbon sequestration and carbon emission reduction in farmland under conservation tillage in western Liaoning".  

Then, LES members and the experts present at the conference put forward suggestions for the development of the Society in 2022 and the future.
