On January 20, 2022, the 2022 first symposium of the "Qingyuan Ker Towers" Forest Ecology and Management Forum was held at the Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shenyang in Offline and Live Streaming mode.

Prof. Zhu Jiaojun, researcher of IAE, Dr. Zhou Xinhua, applied scientist from Campbell Scientific Inc., USA, Prof. Li Xiufen from Shenyang Agricultural University, and other supporting technicians, researchers and graduate students working with the Ker Towers platform attended the symposium. Dr. Gao Tian presided at the symposium.

Dr. Gao Tian outlined past year's work summary and next year's work plan, focusing on the research progress about the Ker Towers, for example, the "precise measurement of forest carbon flux", the "mechanism of carbon sink formation and preservation", the "regional carbon sink simulation and functional improvement", etc. Yu Fengyuan talked about the experimental site management, instrument operation, data quality and usage at the Ker Towers platform.

Five graduate students made presentations on their own thesis topics, including the spatiotemporal changes in forest canopy carbon dioxide concentration, carbon storage and carbon flux calculation, canopy light energy utilization, ecosystem carbon budget, forest plantation productivity, and carbon sinks.

Experts participating in the symposium affirmed the work progress at the Ker Towers Platform, and put forward constructive opinions such as sharing data. At the end of the symposium, Zhu Jiaojun hoped that the "Qingyuan Ker Towers" Forest Ecology and Management Forum can be built as an international academic convention, so it will serve the major national needs in S&T domain (e.g., "carbon peaking" and "carbon neutrality") and advance research on temperate forest ecosystem functions.

After the symposium, the research team working with the Ker Towers Platform summed up the opinions of the experts. The graduate students had in-depth discussions with their supervisors in regard to the suggestions raised during the symposium, and finally they formed specific plans to deal with the flaws in their research and thesis drafts.
