On June 21, 2022, the branch of the Youth Innovation Promotion Association (YIPA) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) at the Institute of Applied Ecology of CAS in Shenyang organized a multiple-disciplinary forum on Ecosystem Carbon Neutrality. The forum was live-streamed online. More than 200 people including members of the YIPA, young scientists and graduate students attended the forum.

At the beginning of the forum, Fang Yunting, deputy director of IAE, made a speech on the institute's Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality research, and on the professional growth of YIPA members of IAE.

Ren Xiaobo, director of the Division of Atmosphere, Ocean and Ecological Environment, Science and Technology Development Bureau of CAS, noted the importance of the atmosphere, the ocean and the terrestrial environment in carbon neutrality. He suggested that young scientists should take this forum as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation and should make major achievements in science and technology.

Bian Guibin, chairman of the YIPA of CAS, briefed on technical innovations done by members of YIPA in the field of carbon neutrality, and encouraged the YIPA members to make more contributions to China's "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" strategic goals.

At the forum, Researcher Wang Guangce, Hu Shijian and Yuan Huamao from the Institute of Oceanography of CAS gave talks concerning ocean carbon cycle and carbon sequestration, biological carbon capture in marine algae, ocean carbon sink potential, and responses of ocean circulation to climate warming respectively.

Researchers Yang Dongxu, Chen Xiaolong and Cheng Lijing from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of CAS gave talks on carbon source/sink monitoring, carbon emission space, and changes in marine environment respectively.

Researchers Tang Xuli and Lu Xiankai from the South China Botanical Garden of CAS, and Xi Fengming, Gao Tian, ??and Sun Tao from IAE gave talks on carbon sources and sinks in terrestrial ecosystems of China, carbon sequestration in subtropical forests, carbon capture in alkaline industrial waste, carbon flux monitoring in forests, and soil carbon sink respectively.

After the forum, every speakers agreed to strengthen exchanges and continue to hold such multiple-disciplinary forums.
