From September 29 to 30, 2022, Qingyuan Forest Ecosystem National Field Observation and Research Station (hereinafter referred to as "Qingyuan Station") organized Qingyuan Forest Forum, an event for celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of the station.

Professor ZHU Jiaojun, director of the Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE) and head of Qingyuan Station, delivered a welcome speech at the beginning of the forum. Then Shangguan Huiting, former CPC Secretary of Qingyuan Manchu Autonomous County, and Guo Xiuyin, former deputy chief of Qingyuan Manchu Autonomous County and deputy head of Qingyuan Station, were awarded the "Outstanding Contributions to Qingyuan Station" and made speeches.

Yu Lizhong, deputy head of Qingyuan Station, outlined the basic situation of the station including its history, scientific and accommodation facilities, talent team, research outcomes and development plans.

Fang Yunting, deputy director of IAE, on behalf of researchers who conducted field experiments at the station, thanked the staff of Qingyuan Station for providing research and accommodation facilities.

Dr. LI Xiufen, alumna of IAE and professor of Shenyang Agricultural University made a speech on behalf of schoolfellows and she expected Qingyuan Station to be down-to-earth and to move forward to a more brilliant future.

Afterwards, Dr. SUN Tao, Dr. Kang Ronghua, Dr. Zhu Feifei, Dr. Liu Dongwei, Dr. Yan Tao (alumnus working at Lanzhou University) and Dr. Hu Lile (alumnus working at State Forestry and Grassland Administration) gave talks entitled "Root input as a main source of soil carbon in temperate forests", "Observation of nitrogen oxide flux between forest ecosystems and the atmosphere", "Research on nitrogen absorption of forest plants", "Effects of warming on forest soil carbon and nitrogen cycling and tree growth", "Ecology and Cultivation of Larch Plantation" and "My Hard Way to Explore Biodiversity", respectively. Then, the participants of the forum made a field trip to learn more about Ker Towers for carbon sink monitoring, field warming research plots, forest catchment hydrological monitoring system, permanent plots for secondary forest research, multi-functional data center and the history exhibition hall of the station.

After 20 years of hard work of its researchers and technicians, Qingyuan Station has gradually developed from a small, institute-level research platform to a CERN- (i.e., Chinese Academy of Sciences Ecosystem Research Network) and national-level station, and has become a comprehensive field research station with international academic influence and multiple functions including ecological observation, experiment, teaching, technique demonstration and science popularization. In the future, Qingyuan Station will further provide scientific and technological support and advisory services to meet the national needs on ecological construction and ecological security such as carbon neutrality strategy, black soil conservation strategy and major forestry engineering projects.
