On March 21, 2023, the Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) carried out the Party-building activity entitled "Promoting the Spirit of Scientists" and held the flag-awarding ceremony for "ZENG Zhaoshun Commando Team" of the Black Soil & Granary Science and Technology Program of CAS".

The research team was named after soil ecologist ZENG Zhaoshun. During his lifetime, ZENG was engaged in soil resources investigation and utilization research in Northeast China. He led a team to look into the features of black soil, the water balance process and the causes of spring drought in black soil farmland, and put forward spring drought prediction and forecasting methods, soil moisture preservation methods, and sustainable farming schemes for black soil farmland.

HAO Xin, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of CAS, awarded the flag to ZHANG Lili, the person in charge of the research team of Shenyang Demonstration Zone of the Black Soil & Granary Science and Technology Program of CAS and the leader of ZENG Zhaoshun Commando Team.　　

Zhang Lili said that she and her team members will carry forward the spirit of scientists of the old generation, shoulder the mission of serving the country with innovative technology, and write a new chapter in the conservation and utilization of black soil in Northeast China.
