On May 10, 2023, the Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), organized a consultation meeting in Beijing to discuss the writing of the "Research Report on the Effectiveness of the Construction of North China's Ecological Security Barriers (hereinafter referred to as Research Report)". More than 40 people attended the meeting, including director and deputy director of IAE, the advisory experts Academician FU Bojie, Academician ZHANG Shougong, Academician YU Guirui, and Academician ZHANG Jiabao and others, and the report writing team members. The meeting was presided over by ZHUO Junchen. 

REN Xiaobo, director of the Science and Technology Promotion and Development Bureau of CAS, delivered a speech and said that the Research Report had been included in the list of the major achievements of CAS that will be released or published in 2023. He hoped that IAE would ensure the high-quality completion of the Research Report. 

ZHANG Wei, on behalf of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA), said that in 2018, IAE was entrusted to evaluate the 40-year construction of the Three North Shelterforest Project and brilliantly completed that task. This time, the NFGA will work with the CAS to complete the compilation of the Research Report.

ZHU Jiaojun, director of IAE, delivered a welcome speech and thanked the leaders, academicians and experts for their long-term support and help to IAE. He then made a comprehensive report and said that IAE had organized the compilation, focusing on analyzing the outcome of ecological shelterbelt construction since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, especially in the past 10 years.

After hearing the report, the advisory expert team conducted in-depth discussions, emphasizing that the writing team of the Research Report should meet the national needs for building beautiful China in the new era, attach importance to overall planning and the harmony between man and nature, as well as regional and international collaboration.

The time schedule to promote the preparation and release of the Research Report was also set at the meeting.
