Liaoning Province has taken a significant step towards strengthening environmental protection with the establishment of its first judicial protection base for environmental resources. The base, inaugurated on June 3rd, is a collaborative effort between the Liaoning Provincial High People's Court (Liaoning High Court) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE).

Located at the Shenyang Ecological Experimental Station, the Black Soil Judicial Protection Base aims to enhance judicial practices in environmental resource cases and create a model for ecological and environmental protection specific to Liaoning Province. This initiative aligns with China's national strategy of building an "ecological civilization."

The collaboration will leverage the expertise of both parties. The Liaoning High Court brings its judicial experience, while IAE contributes its scientific research strengths in areas like ecosystem restoration, black soil protection, and pollution control. This combined effort aims to improve the quality of Liaoning's environment and contribute to the province's green development goals.

The base will serve multiple functions, including promoting scientific research in environmental protection, public education on environmental issues, and training legal professionals. It will also explore innovative approaches that combine "judicial practice" with technological advancements in ecological restoration. This partnership is expected to provide robust legal and scientific support for environmental protection in Liaoning, ultimately contributing to the region's revitalization.

LI Guang and WANG Xugao, representing the Liaoning High Court and IAE respectively, unveiled the plaque for the Black Soil Judicial Protection Base at the Shenyang Ecological Experimental Station of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which has been actively involved in black soil protection efforts for over a decade, significantly contributing to the “National Action Plan for Conservation Tillage of Black Soil in Northeast China (2020 - 2025).”
