China’s Second National Ecology Day Highlights Forest Monitoring

Release Time:2024-08-21 Big Small

August 15, 2024, marks China’s second National Ecology Day. The People’s Daily has spotlighted the Qingyuan Forest Ecosystem Monitoring Station in Liaoning, revealing the intricate happenings within a forest every second.

Utilizing hundreds of sensors from the “Ker Towers”, the station continuously captures comprehensive 3D structural data, flux data, and hydrological data of the forest. Through high-frequency data collection, the station measures and calculates forest productivity and carbon sequestration, studying the forest’s response to environmental variation. This helps in better understanding the operational mechanisms of forest ecosystems.

Ground-based LiDAR scans vast amounts of data to create a “digital forest.”

As the Qingyuan Forest Station’s cloud service evolves, the monitoring platform will be further refined. This meticulous monitoring supports the “Three-North” Shelterbelt Project and contributes to the construction of a "beautiful China" by safeguarding its green landscapes.
