Ethiopian Delegation Visits IAE to Strengthen Research Ties
On November 9, 2024, Dr. Bayisa Leta Danno, President of Ambo University, and Dr. Niguse Bekele, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, visited the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE) in Shenyang. Invited by Dr. FANG Yunting, the delegation aimed to enhance academic cooperation, exchange expertise, and advance resource sharing.
The visit included academic tours of key research facilities such as the Testing Center for Agricultural Product Safety and Environmental Quality, the National Field Observation and Research Station in Shenyang, and the IAE Historical Exhibition Hall. Associate Researchers Dr. ZHU Feifei and Dr. Geshere A. Gurmesa, accompanied the delegation throughout the visit.
LI Guochen, Deputy Head of the Testing Center, showcased advanced instruments, including the liquid chromatography-atomic fluorescence spectrometer and the inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer, explaining their applications in ecological research.
The delegation then explored the National Field Scientific Observation and Research Station of Farmland Ecosystems, where Researcher JIANG Nan provided insights into conservation tillage, black soil protection, and agricultural waste resource utilization. The station’s contributions since 1987 to sustainable agriculture were emphasized.
At the Institute’s Historical Exhibition Hall, Dr. HU Zhibin highlighted the institute’s academic legacy, core values, and achievements in ecological research.
The visit reinforced ties between the Ethiopian and Chinese institutions, paving the way for future interdisciplinary projects. Both sides expressed enthusiasm for leveraging their strengths to address global ecological challenges and promote sustainable development.
